Last Thursday for 2014. Hooray!

Party Day!
It was our last Thursday Bible study group for the year. This was well attended with 15 people coming to join the festivities. We supplied a chinese lunch with noodles, char sil, bau, har gau and dim sum. We also had desert at the end, mango pudding which Margaret from CPC kindly made and I supplied cake. I also gave out presents. It does feel good to have a break from this group. Bible study went ok for the size of the group, this made it a bit hard to manage.
However I praise and thank God that he brought two guys along who had not been before. I have been visiting both these guys and both have mental illness. One of them has quite severe mental illness so for him to attend, even though he left early, was definitely God working in his life.
Pray that we will be able to continue the group next year at CPC.
Thanks for your prayer support and participation throughout the year.  To me its clear I could not have done any of this without your prayer support
Thanks.

Thursday 27th November 2014

Hi everyone,
Unfortunately no one from Tuesday night attended Bible study today. As you can see to
make the transition from a Tuesday night to Thursday Bible study needs more than good conversation and invitation.
This really requires God to work a miracle in some people. Despite the lack of attendance from Tuesday night's
individuals, 11 people came through our doors today. Bible study was well received and participated.
Although there appears to be a bit of tension between a couple of our regulars. I am trying to reconcile their misunderstandings.
Thanks again for your prayers and support

Last Tuesday Night of 2014 - November SHUM

Tuesday the 25th November was the last SHUM Tuesday Night for the year.
Many people were there and many willing to chat to us and stay. If we had stayed even longer, I suspect they would have stayed with us. The November SHUM team were very encouraged and it was a fitting note to end the SHUM Tuesday night calendar on.
Thanks to the November SHUM team for participating in the month. I hope the challenges and things you learnt during the month  can be carried on and shared with others.
I wish the November SHUM team, God's blessings as many are embarking on different paths and at different Churches.
Thanks again for your support participation and prayers

Thursday 13th November 2014

Hi everyone,
9 people came through our doors on Thursday. It was a very quiet day and Bible study was well participated.
No incidents or casualties. We have a few regulars away one being in hospital whom I visited on Wednesday.
He also attended Bible study On Tuesday afternoon with me and would have been at central on Tuesday night
but admitted himself to emergency at St Vincents Hospital.
Visiting at St Vincents is pretty much a weekly occurrence for me the last few months. As I visited this guy in emergency I also met another guy from the lodge in emergency as well. Then after these 2 encounters I had to visit another guy in another part of St Vincents.
Thanks for your prayers for Thursday, it was a joy to have a peaceful Thursday without too much aggression from anyone.
Please continue to pray for us.
Thanks
Michael

God's Grace 6th Nov 2014

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your prayers. Even though we had some regulars away. 15 people came through our doors. This was a bit of a surprise even to me. This is more than our normal number. Despite the number of people who came things ran relatively smoothly. Although directing the Bible study and answering people’s questions was an extremely busy process.
I really must thank God for His sovereignty. One guy who can be very difficult and aggressive clearly did not want to leave. He hung around after everyone had left.  I cleaned up spoke with him and said goodbye and left him in the courtyard. I watched him from a distance And prayed and after about 5 minutes he left.
Praise God that this guy left in peace and of his own accord.
One lady came for the first time today and hopefully will continue to do so, please pray for her.
Pray that God will continue to work in the lives of these people

Thanks

Thursday 30th October

Hi everyone,
Today 9 people came through our doors. We do have a number of people away and yet God still brings those He wants there. It was a relatively peaceful day. However one lady has been jealous the last couple of times we have met because I have had to give another person attention who is facing many issues. This lady gets jealous when the focus does not turn to herself. She was still speaking and talking about the time I spent with this person on Sunday afternoon.
Please pray for her as her aggressive and rude nature is quite a handful at times.
Thanks

Michael

OCTOBER SHUM

Thanks to the October SHUM Team. It was great to serve with them despite the torrential rain one night. I hope to see you all again next year. Last Tuesday was a fitting end for the month with many people staying and wanting to continue their conversations with us.
Thanks everyone for your support and participation

Thursday 23 Oct 2014

Hi everyone,
Today 9 people came through our doors. We did have a couple of people away due to other appointments. It was a peaceful day and everyone participated in Bible study. On Tuesday night even though it was not a busy night, two people whom I had not seen for a while were there. Both came to Bible study today. One of them who came is intending to attend church on Sunday, well at least when he left today , that was his intention. God works in all situations.
Thanks for your prayers

Tuesday Night and Thursday 14th&16th Oct 2014

Hi everyone,
Tuesday
It was an extremely wet and stormy Tuesday night. Did not matter if you had an umbrella everyone was soaked. We were so wet we did not want to sit down. I also dropped one of the guys home who lives not too far from central. Due to his bad leg it took about 5 minutes to him to get into the car, while it was bucketing down. After about 30 seconds, it did not matter I was completely soaked yet again with water pouring into the car as well.
Really makes me appreciate  when its dry weather.
Thursday
Today 11 people came through our doors. There was a funeral on as we met today. God was gracious and no unfortunate interactions occurred between our group and people attending the funeral. Today was a mostly peaceful day. One chap though was a little off when we begun but soon calmed down.
People today drifted in at all different times.
Please pray for one lady who brought her grand-daughter with her. Pray that she will return.
Thanks for your prayers

Thursday and Memorial service Friday 9th Oct 2014

Hi everyone,
As expected a few regulars were away as there was a memorial service for a very popular man named ‘animal’. In spite of this 9 people came for Bible study. It was a very peaceful day with people participating in Bible study freely. One man who came had not been for a couple of years. He can often be a handful and has been banned from many centres at one time or another. He is can be much worse than the Mark we spoke of on Tuesday night.  Thankfully he was well behaved on Thursday. Strangely enough it is clear to me that he has had theological training. He may have even been a priest in his past life such is  his knowledge of the Bible old and new. Clearly something has gone amiss in his life.
Please continue to pray for the group and everyone’s safety as people who often attend can be extremely volatile. They are like time bombs , ticking waiting to explode.
The memorial service on Friday went ok. There were no incidents and the family of the deceased came to Edward Eagar Lodge which is very unusual. It was unfortunate that the memorial service could only be held 3 and a half weeks after the death due to many complications. I am fairly sure this affected the number of people being present. The lady who died was a very popular person amongst the marginalised and also at other centers.
The events of this week with another 2 more deaths at the lodge, I am sure also affected the people who were going to attend.
Please pray for the residents of the lodge as the number of deaths has affected the mood and mental state of both staff and residents.

Thanks you for your prayers it is clear prayer is needed in this seemingly uncontrollable situation.

Thursday 2nd October 2014

Hi everyone,
Today 15 people came through our doors. I ran a casual service for one man who had passed away and consistently attended ourgroup. He had been struggling with cancer for the last two years and recently it had overtaken him. He has now gone home to be with the Lord.
His wishes were no funeral and ceremony. Hence what we did today was to remember and celebrate his passing to the Lord. Three people who had not been before attended  to remember and say their farewells to this friend.
Thanks you for your prayers and support.
Please remember to pray for us , your prayers are invaluable in this ministry.
Thanks

Michael

September SHUM Team

Thanks to the members of the September SHUM team.
Hope you were challenged and encouraged and will return next year to participate again.
Please also continue to pray for this ministry as prayer in these situations is always needed.
Thanks

Return Thursday 25th Sept 2014

Hi everyone,
Today was a quiet day with 5 people attending. I think people didn’t know we started back. That coupled with the fact that CPC had been placing a notice on the gate saying we were back on the 2nd October. Not sure how they got that, must have been lost in the translation. Unfortunately one fellow who attended today was in a bad and angry mood. However God was gracious and everyone else who was there was very patient with him.
Bible study was good and people participated freely.
I also shared with the group about Vanuatu and a couple of them want to donate money to them. Praise God.

Its been a complicated past couple of weeks with my own health not the best as I recover from pneumonia last week which is now clear but still don’t feel 100%.
Please pray that the regulars will return back to their routine next Thursday.
Thanks for your support and prayers

Funds Needed

Hi everyone,
Esso and Family with Lisa
My wife and I have recently come back from a holiday to Tanna Island in Vanautu.
We had just planned a holiday, but God had other ideas. We had originally chosen this island so we could see an active volcano and to be with the people to see how they live.

We connected easily with our tour hosts Esso and Rachel, and it was evident they were invested in the people of their village and of the island. We were searching for a time to share with them and find out what they believed. God provided this time after dinner on our second evening. We found out that they were fellow believers in Jesus and they shared with us many amazing miracles God had worked in their lives. This included starting their business with the purpose of benefitting both them and their people.
To cut a long story short, they asked me to come one night to their village to speak. They have also set their village up as a sanctuary for people with problems who are not welcomed in other villages.  Unfortunately it poured with rain that night and the meeting was cancelled. It was cancelled because they didn’t have a place to meet. We were disappointed but I took the opportunity to ask the girls in the kitchen if they would like to have Bible study with us. They were eager to listen to the story about Jairus’ daughter and the healing of the bleeding woman. When we had nearly finished, their brothers also came and sat with us and we prayed for them.
Earlier that evening we had given the only Bible we took on holiday to Rachel and now the girls also wanted Bibles.
The next morning we were invited to see their meeting place/church. Our host’s brother John called together those who were in the village because he wanted me to speak to them. I spoke from a passage in Luke and they in turn thanked us by singing a song for us called, “God can do anything”. It was an encouraging time.
So why am I telling you this?
The people in this village have requested:
1.    Bibles and Sunday School materials
2.    Funds to rebuild their meeting place. It is dilapidated and in need of repair. This is a tropical area so when it rains it can really come down.
3.    That we return to stay with them, not as tourists, but as their family and teach them from the Bible.
The building they use for church needs repairs and enlarging. The estimated cost is about $8000 AUD to cover the cost of materials. This will not make a grand building, but will provide a study structure with a floor, 4 walls and a roof that does not leak.
The current meeting place
We have already begun working to get the Bibles and Sunday School materials to them. I have been in contact with mission organisations both in Port Vila and in Sydney, and have learnt that the best way to do this is to send the parcel of Bibles and materials ourselves.
We are attempting to raise the funds for the village so they can have a sheltered place to meet and have church.
We welcome any donations of funds to this worthy cause.
All funds will be directed to God’s work there, and God willing, my wife and I hope to return soon to see their progress.

If you are interested in supporting this or have further questions please let me know.

Thursday 4th September

Hi everyone
It was a quiet day today. This was good as Lisa my wife  came to help out today but she  was pretty sick. 8 people came through our doors and all participated in Bible study.
Some may have got the days mixed up. This is because  I have put the Thursday group into recess for the next two weeks. This means we will be back on the 25th of September. I will be away for a little over a week but will be back at the lodge on Tuesday the 16th September.  .
Please pray that God will continue to work in the hearts of the marginalised we minister to.
Thanks for your prayers

Michael

CONGRATULATIONS to Fiona and Lei

Congratulations to Fiona and Lei who have had a healthy baby girl!
May God bless them with a sleep hungry baby.

Thursday 28th August 2014

On Thursday 7 people  came through our doors and it was much quieter than last
week. I praise God for this as I have been pretty sick this week and it was worse on Thursday and today.
God was gracious and even though fewer people attended, Bible study was good. We also shared in communion after the study.
Please pray that God will continue to transform the lives of the people who attend.
Thanks

August SHUM Team

Hi everyone
Thanks to the AUGUST shum Team who were from Northern Districts Chinese Church in North Epping. It was great to have them along and hopefully we will see them again next year. I hope they were challenged but also grew to trust Jesus in the midst of those challenges.

An almost Peaceful day 21st August 2014

Hi everyone,
Today 11 people came through the doors to participate in Bible study. This was not including another guy who came in when we had finished. Although it was good to see this man as he has not been for about one month.
Today everyone had participated well in Bible study except for one guy, whom I have known for at least a few years.  He is  quite a big and tall man and was not going well  mentally today. Near the end of the day, he became exceptionally rude, swearing and threatening to harm people verbally. Unfortunately people responded to his verbal attacks which is what he wanted and this escalated an already volatile situation. God was indeed gracious and I was able to separate him from the others and get them to leave. After this he finally left continuing the verbal abuse and threats. If he does attend next week which I doubt, he will need to apologise and treat people respectfully or he will have to leave with or without police escort.
Please pray for him and pray about next Thursday’s Bible study.
It is clear even on a good day, when all is travelling peacefully the unexpected can occur.
Please continue to pray for the group and people who attend.
Pray for their mental state and that God’s word will transform their lives.
Thanks

Michael

Thursday 14th August 2014

Hi everyone,
Today 10 people came through our doors. It was a very peaceful day with not too many problems eventuating although their were a few individual problems which always tend to surface.
One lady was pretty cranky when she first arrived but she settled down after some needy attention.
Bible study went well with people participating, particularly when I was talking about temptation.
Please continue to  pray for the Thursday Bible study group.
Pray that God’s word will transform their lives.
Thanks for your prayers.

Thursday 7th August 2014

Hi everyone
12 people attended Bible study yesterday. Apart from them we had 8 visitors from Melbourne on a gap year from a Christian college. They came and sang songs with us 3 of them shared their testimony. The group asked questions and I think most enjoyed the time they had with the young people.
Please continue to pray for the people who attend that:
They attend in a stable state of mind
They come ready to receive God’s word
That God’s word will transform their lives

They behaved well during Thursday but some I know and were with during the week were stressed and so their behaviour and language exhibited this.
Thanks for your prayers they are most needed.

A Quiet Week - Thursday 31 July 2014

Hi everyone,
Well including Sunday and  Tuesday , today was also very quiet. 6 people attended today
and this is the smallest number we have had for a long time.
Despite this though we did have a good study and people participated and shared freely.

This was also probably God's grace as I have been  sick this week and was pretty tired today.
Please continue to pray that God will transform the lives of the people who attend.
Thanks for your prayers
Michael

Thanks to July SHUM Team

Thanks to the July SHUM team who were organised by CREDO from UTS. It was great getting to know the team and serve alongside them. I hope you will be encouraged to continue learning and sharing the gospel with others. I also hope to see another CREDO group there next year. July has had many people coming each week except for the last Tuesday night of the month. Last Tuesday was quieter but people still came and spoke with us. We also celebrated one regulars birthday, with cake and birthday song included
Thanks for your support and participation.

Thursday 24th July

Hi everyone,
Today 9 people came through our doors. It was an incident free afternoon with people participating
in Bible study. One lady who rang me  could not come today because she was having an xray after being
pushed into a wall. Please pray for her physical being. A woman whom I visited after Bible study is a regular. However she  has not been attending Thursdays or Sundays for the past month. She is not going well at all. She has anxiety
issues and this coupled with problems with her son has placed her  in a very stressful situation. Please pray for her.
Pray also for a guy whom I recently helped out with accommodation for a week. He has been uncontactable. Pray that he is ok and will resume contact soon.
The July SHUM Team will be at the Lodge this Sunday. Pray that this will be an encouraging and challenging experience for them.
Thanks for your prayers

Thursday 17th July

Hi everyone,
Today was a change from last week. There were many people away this week, which really was God’s grace towards the group. As we met today renovations were taking place at Church. This meant we had to change rooms to an upstairs room and all things had to be carted to the room.
7 people attended today and participated well during the Bible study.

Please pray for one woman who is quite jealous and annoyed with a couple of other guys in the group. Actually I think its one particular person and he helps me out and comes to all our meetings. She is quite rude and abrupt with him for no reason. Please pray God will work in her to transform her rudeness. She is threatening to have a break from the group for a couple of weeks. Please submit this to God in prayer.
Thanks for your prayers

A Chaotic Day 10th July 2014

Hi everyone,
Thursday was chaotic. 15 people came through the doors. Three of whom were mentally distressed and agitated and this did not help the mood of the others they ended up leaving. One woman who I had visited in psych hospital had just been released and came to see me.
Another guy who was bad mentally I encouraged to sit outside as he was not in the state of mind to be with people. However he later came in and then caused quite a bit of disturbance.
As usual I kept to my plan and forged ahead with Bible study and people participated , praise God. It was still a chaotic time.

There was also one new person who attended.
Please continue to pray for the group as clearly prayer in needed and crucial for this ministry.
God was gracious in that he brought so many people along and we did manage to get through Bible study together. Pray that God's word will transform their lives.
Thanks
Michael

Thursday 3rd July 2014

Hi everyone
Today 11 people attended and all stayed for Bible study. The day started off slow with 4 people coming very early (around 12pm). However by the time we began Bible study 10 people had arrived. Another came a bit later. It was for most part a peaceful day with a bit of tension developing during prayer time. I had to ask people to be quiet while others prayed as a few almost had an argument during prayer. This is probably hard to imagine but strangely enough this can happen very easily during prayer time.
One lady also called me from the psych ward at St Vincents Hospital today. I had visited her the other day and she was expecting to get a day pass to attend Thursday Bible study but unfortunately did not.

Thanks for your prayers please continue to pray that God’s word will transform their lives.

Thanks to the June SHUM Team and Thursday Bible study

Sunday
Thank you also for your participation at Edward Eagar Lodge. It was great to have you involved. After the service on Sunday we had a very chaotic time in Bible study. Two people were mentally unstable that day . One kept coming in and out of Bible study and being disruptive the other would talk incessantly about anything. This was unfortunate as one guy who came, a newcomer. was also not well and really searching for God’s answers to his questions. I did my best to answer his questions whilst dealing with the other two.
Pray that God will work in his life and that he will return to participate in Bible study.

Later I then helped one of the regulars move to new accommodation, as I had found her another place earlier in the week.
Sunday was exhausting.

Thursday
Today 8 people came through our doors for Bible study. However,  two left before Bible study began. One left because of anxiety issues. This was the smallest number we have had for a long time. However this was also a blessing as Bible study was good with people participating. We also shared communion together today.
Pray that others will return and that God will continue to transform their lives.

Thanks for your prayers and participation both are necessary for this ministry to continue.

God the Provider Thursday 19th june

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your prayers. Today we had a number of regulars away but even so 10 people came through our doors to attend Bible study.
It was a relatively peaceful day with people participating freely. There were also 3 guys ( apart from the 10 who attended Bible study) who came in earlier looking to have lunch but they were an hour early and when I told them this coupled with the fact that  we have lunch then Bible study and prayer, they were not so keen and left.
Please continue to pray for the group and those who attend. Pray that God’s word may transform their lives.
Praise point and thanks to God who provides!
I have  been working most of the week to find someone accommodation for a regular to Thursday Bible study and Sunday service at the Lodge. God was gracious and I managed to contact a couple of places which sounded suitable for her. After Bible study I took her to see a place and she was very happy with it and snapped it up immediately. I thought she may have been able to wait for something a little cheaper and larger
but she was happy to take it there and then. However  it is a great location for her. She also says it is much better than where she was.
Pray that she will be grateful to our God who provides abundantly.

Thank God for his provision

Tuesday nights

The last two Tuesday nights we have been inundated with people. In fact there were so many people there last Tuesday night they formed their own queue and lined up in a semi organised fashion. We ran out of sugar and water.
Its times like this we need to work fast and try and get into conversation and prayer even faster.
Please pray that we will be able to meet the spiritual needs of people and that they would stay longer to speak with us. Staying longer means we can get around and hopefully speak with everyone.
Thanks
Michael

A Chaotic day Thursday 12th June

Hi everyone ,
Today was at best chaotic. Not aggressive chaotic people were not fighting, but none the less chaotic. Today things just kept occurring. One lady who needed attention all day that whom I know from the lodge, attended today because one of the regulars came across her and she had been punched in the eye. Her eye was black , sore and she was very drunk.
I managed to calm her and she spent the whole day with us. However she was hard to maange as she wanted to interrupt and sing and at other times just talk. After we finished I tried to walk her back to the lodge but she passed out across the road from Church. I then had to get someone to sit with her while I went back to Church and cleared up. I also had another guy stay for a shower at Church which I sometimes let him do.
However  he took liberties and washed his clothes as well and  40 minutes later he was finished. During this time I  had to record some guitar playing for one of our regulars who needs it for a course she is doing. Then after he had finished his washing and left  I had to go see the lady passed out and somehow get her back to the lodge or get mission beat. Fortunately she had regained consciousness and I managed to pick her up and walk her back somehow to the lodge. Praise God for that.
And I was able to pick the lady up and walk her to the lodge where she is safe and can sleep it off.
This was only the latter part of the day when Bible study had finished.
One guy I know well, left a little early today but I could tell he could not concentrate and was have trouble listening and understanding.
All in all  13 people came through our doors today. It was hard day to control everyone’s concentration with multiple interruptions and people arriving at different times today.
We even had a time after the study where people were just asking random questions from passages in the Bible. This in itself is good however they all wanted to ask at the one time and so kept interrupting. I had to constantly remind them of the one person at a time speaking rule. This just added to the chaos.

Please continue to pray for the group. If they do not need it I certainly do.
Thanks
Michael

Peace Thursday 29th May

Hi everyone
Today  11 people attended Bible study. It was a very peaceful day without too much stress or problems.
Thank and praise God for this. People also participated well in Bible study today.
Please continue to pray for the group that God’s word will transform their lives and they will see the necessity of following the Lord daily.
Thanks again
Michael

May SHUM Team

Well its goodbye and thank you to the May SHUM team. It was great to serve with you and I hope that you were challenged and encouraged throughout the month. It was certainly encouraging to have you all there on Sunday at Edward Eagar Lodge.
I would love to see you all return again to SHUM and serve with me.
Please keep us in your prayers.
Continue to pray that God's word will transform the lives of those we meet.
Thanks

A Peaceful day Thursday 22nd May

Hi everyone,
Today 14 people came through our doors. One person came very late after we finished. However I still sat and prayed with them over a cup of tea. Another guy who was not travelling well stayed with us for a while and then left. I encouraged him to do this as when he is unstable mentally and within a group he can become aggressive and threatening. Please pray I can continue to sort this out.
Today was an unusually incident free day. People were even quiet.
Praise God as He continues to bring people consistently. Pray that God’s word will transform their lives. One new person came today. I had actually met him before. It was his first time and he came along with one of our regulars.
We also shared communion today.
Please continue to pray for the group and that people will grow in the Lord.
Thanks for your prayers

Thursday 15th May 2014

Hi everyone
Today 12 people passed through our doors. It was a relatively peaceful day. I revised rules of behaviour
within the group and will do the same again with the Sunday group. Then we proceeded with Bible study as normal. It is very hard to know what to expect each week.
Hence your prayers that people attend in a stable mental state and hearts ready to receive God's word
are critical to this ministry.
Please continue to pray for the group and for SHUM.
The last couple of months it has been difficult to get people to participate in SHUM on Tuesday nights.
God has graciously provided people this month again. Please pray for God's continued grace each month, with people to participate.
Thanks again for you prayers and support

Thursday - Return after recess 8th May

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your prayers. After Tuesday night I was expecting more of the same . However God was gracious  and today was very peaceful. It was our first week back after a recess of 3 weeks and most regulars returned. One fellow  who was not in a good state on Tuesday night came today.  Today though he was in a good state of mind and participated in Bible study.  14 people came through our doors today and all participated in Bible study.
Thank you everyone for your prayers.  This time only works because of a gracious God and prayerful people

Michael

May SHUM Begins

May SHUM.
Praise God for providing peoplefor May SHUM.
Tuesday night began May SHUM. It was frenetic night with people coming and going.  However a couple of people were very agitated. I spent time with one of them and when I thought he was mentally stable and the night was almost through the other fellow who I know and had not spent time with, broke out angrily. He became aggressive and others also started being aggressive back. However God was gracious after a while I managed to lead him away from the group and eventually calm him. Finally he left but was in a much better mental state and left peaceably.

Praise and thanks to God for his protection and grace as everyone left peaceably and no violence occurred.
Thank you for your prayers and please continue to pray for us.

Please continue to pray for the mission.

Easter weekend. Jesus has Risen!

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your prayers. It was my first Easter at Edward Eager Lodge.
It started on Thursday. I thought I would give a talk as people lined up for dinner on Thursday. I made the talk visual only lasting a few minutes. It was pretty well received , in that everyone listened and were surprisingly well behaved. I then invited people to join me in a communion service after dinner. There were probably only about 8 of us for the service but there were those who sat back and listened silently.

Friday I led the service at 10.00 am. At first I thought there would only be about 6 people as many regulars were at other events. However other residents came and sat through the service so by the time I began my sermon /talk there were about 16 people.
After service we then went on a prayer walk around Surry Hills. There were 15-20 of us. This group comprised of people from a few different Churches. We carried a cross on our travels stopping at certain places to pray. This end up at St Michael's Church where we finished with hot cross buns tea and coffee.

Sunday was normal service at 10.00 am this was well attended over 20 people attended the service to my pleasant surprise. Most of these were residents. It was a joyous day. EEL had also organised easter eggs to be handed out after the service and we also enjoyed a nice lunch generously supplied by one of the workers at EEL.
The highlight of the service is that during my talk someone broke down and wanted to accept Jesus there and then. We prayed for him and again after the service and he joined a few of us for Bible study at 12.
Praise God!
This man had attended the previous Sunday. I had spoke to him but he did not seem that interested.
Pray that God will continue to work in the lives of the people there.
Pray also that God will continue to transform their lives.
Thanks
Michael

Praise God! Thursday 10th April 2014

Hi everyone.
Thanks for your prayers. Today things wen t surprisingly  smoothly. People were in a good state of mind today. They even appreciated each others prayers.
One guy who does not speak much English and had not said anything at all during Bible discussion prayed such a heart felt prayer, that all present were touched. He prayed thanks that he had learnt from the study today and prayed forgiveness because I had asked him earlier what we could pray for him. His reply was to be able to speak better English and learn more English. After the study he prayed forgiveness for this because he learnt from the study that money can be an idol but for him its not money but his English. Praise God who spoke to his heart today.
Another who comes regularly but has times when he is mentally not well and aggressive, apologised to everyone for his previous behaviour. He said he enjoyed today immensely. Praise God.

Today 11 people came through our doors
Pray that God and His word will continue to work in the lives of these people and transform their hearts
Thanks

Michael

Thursday 3rd April 2014

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your prayers. 12 people came through our doors. Everyone stayed for Bible study. One guy  was mentally challenged today and a little angry and frustrated with his current position and accommodation. I gave him some advice but its up to him if he wants to follow through with this.
Pray that God and His word will work in their lives to transform them and grow them in Him. One guy a believer and quite knowledgeable about the Bible is quite arrogant  because of this and always appears disinterested. Its as if he cannot be taught. However he turns up every week! Go figure. Pray that God will transform his life.

Thanks

Michael

Thursday 27th March 2014

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your prayers today. Today went much smoother with most if not all people being in a better frame of mind. I was very thankful for this, praise The Lord! Today 10 people came through our doors. All stayed and participated in Bible study. It was a pretty good turn considering the down pour of rain that had occurred earlier.
One guy who came today had not been before, although I had spoken to him before a number of times in the street. He actually had left his bags and luggage at Church because he did not want to cart them with him. He came to collect them but no one knew who had spoken with him and where his gear was. Eventually I did find his stuff , by God’s grace as he was getting pretty irritated. He then decided to join us for Bible study.

Please continue to pray that God will transform the lives of those who attend. Pray that those who attend  will learn to control their tongues and that their arrogance and pride will be replaced with teachable hearts, love and humility.
Thanks
Michael

Thanks March SHUM Team

Hi all,
Thanks to the March SHUM team. I hope that you were both encouraged and challenged. It was also great to have you participate in the service at Edward Eagar Lodge. Praise God that we can worship together as one body. Please continue to remember us in your prayers. Hope to see you serving on SHUM in the future. This mission only exits because of the commitment of many believers.
Thanks again
Michael

A stressful week Thursday 20th March 2014

Hi everyone,
Today was a tough day following  a very tough week. Many incidents occurred this week for me at Edward Eagar lodge and CPC.
However as for today one guy came who has not been well, mentally, all week. He was very disruptive swearing at people and acting aggressively. He actually did the same with me earlier on Tuesday afternoon when I met a few people for Bible study. He is a regular and attends the Bible studies I hold  but when he is like this he is extremely disruptive to everyone. On Tuesday he was with me  yelling and insulting the staff at Edward Eagar Lodge as they walked by. People today were as patient as they could be with him.
One lady who attends the group suffers from anxiety and when he spoke to her rudely and aggressively she left immediately.
Please pray  that he wont be as disruptive on Sunday and will be in a much better state of mind. When this fellow is thinking properly he is a lovely, faithful person to have around. But of course this can change on the toss of a coin. Please also pray that I might have the wisdom and strength to continue to deal with such situations.
Thanks for your prayers they are certainly needed

Thursday 13th March 2014

Hi everyone,
Last Thursday was a very busy day. 15 people attended Thursday Bible study. I was thankful that my wife and two other from CPC were there to help out. When there is this number of people it is a lot harder to keep their attention through Bible study. However God was gracious and most were in a stable state of mind with the exception of one guy. He attends regularly but when he is not going well he waits and sits outside until we have finished Bible study and he then speaks to me.

Please pray for two regulars who have just recently stopped coming because  some of the group are quite abrupt in their conversation and even arrogant. This puts them off and both on separate occasions have said they need a break from some of the people in the group. Pray that God will work in the lives of those in the group who can be a discouragement to others. Pray that God will transform them and control their mouths and change their attitudes.

Thanks again for your prayers and please continue to pray for the group.

Thursday 6th March 2014

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your prayers.
Yesterady 11 people attended Bible study with 1 coming for lunch but having to leave before we began the study.
Everyone was in a pretty good state of mind and things went relatively smoothly.
Another guy came late to catch up with me after our meeting, however I had already left as I had to take someone with me to see if I could get accommodation for them.
Please pray that God's word will transform the lives of those who attend.
Pray that God will control their abruptness , rudeness and arrogance. Due to this one guy who has been regular for the past few years last week told he will stop attending.
We have a good relationship and he wants to continue to meet with me by ourselves and not at the group
Pray thanks that God has these things is his hand and under his control.
Thanks

Michael

Tension and Upsets Thursday 27th Feb 2014

Hi everyone,
Today 12 people attended Thursday Bible group. However one regular  was very upset at some abrupt talk that was happening even before we ate lunch. He left immediately. He is a believer and very sensitive. He is thinking of not returning please pray for him.
I then had to encourage everyone to be careful of what they say and be considerate to each other’s state of mind. Whilst doing this I was  interrupted by another regular and had to stop him from continuing. He did not like this and left later did not want to talk to me when I confronted him. He also then left. Pray also that he will calm down and return.
After we finished the study today one of the workers from Edward Eagar Lodge brought around a guy who amongst many things was suffering trauma from events in his life. We talked for another hour or so. You may have heard of a recent train accident at Marrickville severing the legs of a man. The guy I spoke with today was there pulled the guy up on the platform and had to turn his body the other way so gravity was not draining the blood from his legs. He then tied off his legs. Unbelievable! Well this  guy probably saved his life. Even more unbelievable is that  this is just one event of many that have happened to this man causing him great trauma and of course anxiety. Please pray for him as well. He is wanting to attend Thursdays group and also meet up on Tuesday for Bible study as well.
Clearly all these people need prayer. So please pray for them
Thanks again, in His service
Michael

February SHUM Team THANKS

Hi everyone,

Thanks to the February SHUM team for participating in SHUM in February. Thanks  to many of them for also  attending the Sunday service, I hope you enjoyed it. As they walk away from the month, my hope is that they will feel challenged and encouraged. Encouraged,  to know that sharing the gospel and looking for opportunities to do so, is a real possibility in our lives, and challenged, to continue to do this.
Thanks
Michael

Many People Thursday 20th Feb 2014

Hi everyone,
Despite the amount of people who came through the doors today , everyone was relatively well behaved. I praise God for this as I am sure he is aware of the days I am more ready to  handle problems and the days I am not.
Today12 stayed for people for Bible study. Another 2 came but something happened and they left even before we served lunch. On top of this another two came (one a regular). The visitor attended service last Sunday at Edward Eagar Lodge. However they could only stay for lunch and left.
Thanks for your prayers. You can probably understand now with this number of people attending and each one with so many issues, why I always request prayer.
Each week some people have been coming from Edward Eagar Lodge, however these few want to stay for lunch only. Pray that God will touch their hearts somehow and they will hear His words..

Thanks Michael

Thursday 13th Feb 2014

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your prayers. Today 16 people came through our doors. Of those 16, 12 stayed for Bible study 1 of who was their first time. I have in the past week been offered and accepted the role of Chaplain/Pastor at Edward  Eager Lodge. It was interesting to note that last week and this week new people came from the Lodge who have never been before. I am guessing they are coming to possibly  check me out. Last week 2 new comers attended and this week 3 from Edward Eagar Lodge. Unfortunately the 3 today did not stay for Bible study but were extremely polite. In fact more polite than the regulars.
I would also appreciate prayer for Sundays and the change of me being the Pastor there. Pray people will adjust quickly and that I will be able to handle whatever comes my way there.
Please pray also that I have wisdom in the way I divide my time
Thanks again for your prayers they are most appreciated

Michael
